All Australian employees (including casual employees) after 12 months employment are entitled to 12 months unpaid maternity & parental leave when a child is born or adopted.

Maternity & parental leave can be taken when you or your partner give birth or adopt a child that is under 16 years of age and you’re the primary care giver.

Most people also qualify for paid parental leave for up to 18 weeks at the national minimum wage. This is paid by the government through your employer.
